The Hastings Fire Department includes 28 full time and 32 reserves including the Fire Chief. All of the full time staff are certified Emergency Medical Technicians. There are two fire station locations. The City's equipment includes three engines, one ladder truck, one Rescue truck, one Hazmat vehicle and two trailers, one command vehicle, and three staff cars. Fire insurance classification within the city limits was upgraded in June 1994 to class three. The rural classification ranges from seven to ten depending upon the location of the property within the Fire District.
